When I first read this I seen … Can’ ad… and was thinking Canada. And I was hoping to be able to run on a piece about how the CRTC are idiots.
But today it looks as if I get to poke a little more fun at the more well known FCC I guess. That is the US governing body on communications I think? Who ever it is that decides what is allowed to be publicly broadcasted OTA (over the air) probably had a few gears going off in their head when they are screening this one.
On one hand, everyone and sometimes their dog has a TV. So what they allow to be shown on the airwaves has to be acceptable in the bible belt, more or less. I don’t see 1-900 commercials with scantly clad women in bikinis trying to convince me that it is going to be her on the end of the phone line I’m talking to instead of working a brass pole at your local speakeasy. No they reserve that time slot for life insurance commercials, trying to suck cash from the elderly before their mind completely goes. I don’t know if this is a regulation or a demographics thing. Either way it is like shooting fish in a barrel.
On the other hand. In this world of global networks almost anyone that has access to media like TV has access to the internet. To a point where people in recent and current war torn countries are pounding Twitter with feeds on the local elections and current uprisings. But when you try to deny people of something. Something so harmless as a suggestive commercial? Man your asking for it.
When you deny to public of something they are going to want to see why. And therefore you are going to make it viral and everyone is going to want to see it. Kids are going to be downloading them to their mobile media devices and bringing them to school.
But is this a ploy by the advertising giants? Do they spend all that cash on commercials just racy enough where they know it wont be seen on TV but they can feed it to the media after and see it grow like wildfire? If this is the case then they are getting the additional kick back of having their product be branded “The Choice of Bad Asses”.
Now here is the kicker. I send this to my mother to watch, now she isn’t some biker mom and she isn’t a prude. She has been known to get a good laugh out of some pretty sick jokes but there is a limit. She watched the video and didn’t get the “take it in the ass” undertones. “I would have never thought dirty!” she said.
