Apple’s decision to give exclusive rights to one provider in certain countries was a mixed move.

Apple themselves need a provider for their internal business dealings and offering exclusive rights gives them a lot of leverage with whatever wireless provider they decide to roll with in Country X.

But having problems with a product that is tethered to another companies technology exclusively in a certain market means they put a lot of trust in the company they are dealing with.

Right now the blame is on AT&T for biting off more than they can chew when it comes to delivering the product. Reading the quote from AT&T’s Spokesman Mark Siegel “”We have a strong, high-quality mobile broadband network. It is the nation’s fastest 3G network, now in 350 major metropolitan areas.” makes me think AT&T should save some cash by replacing Spokesmen with glossy brochures.

When I asked my Apple enthusiast friend about Rogers as the iPhone provider for Canada from a customer service standpoint he said

“…Coverage is fine, their customer service are douches but most places are.”

When asked about Quality of Service

“Rogers is more compliant with iPhones than AT&T seems to be in the states, and the quality of service isn’t nearly as disappointing as AT&T.”

On a scale of 1-10 he gives Rogers in Canada a 6 for Customer Service and a 9 for Quality of Service.

AT&T needs to show some accountability, fix the issues and change their marketing tactics.
