I can’t be one to judge. I sort of wish we had a caning system here. Kartika Sari Dewi Shukarno age 32 is about to receive 6 symbolic `strokes’ with a cane. They are only going to use a little stick compared to the big beef eater they whack drug smugglers and rapists with, that puppy tears

skin and leaves scars. See what I mean about we needing a caning system here?
The gist of the whole thing it seems to me is religion dictating laws. And they way I see it is, unless you live in Malaysia it is none of your damn business. The big countries spend too much time bullying the little ones and pushing our ideals on them while turning a blind eye to our own home territory.
For us to judge this countries criminal justice system would be ludicrous when our own is in such disarray. And when mixing religion with politics. Christianity doesn’t have a such a clear and concise code of laws that the Qur’an has.
The people of Malaysia are speaking out. We might see this as progress or we might also see this as our Western culture poisoning theirs. Either way I wish the people of Malaysia luck. But I fully recommend keeping the cane whacking… No, for real.

As far as I know, Malaysia has two seperate legal systems. One that covers law determined by the government, and one that deals with issues relating to Islam, but only has power of Muslims. Malaysia’s constitution guarantees religious freedom, so it’s ok to drink beer if you are a woman, as long as you aren’t also a muslim.

Harsh, yes, but if you choose to follow a certain set of rules be prepared to suffer the consequences.
I, too, believe we should have the big beef eater here in the U.S. Imagine the tax dollars saved if we could use corporal punishment instead of incarceration.
